We use dewaxed blonde shellac due to its neutral color and ease of mixing with dry color pigments.
Shellac flakes should be dissolved in methylated spirits or any denatured alcohol that can be found at a hardware stores.
Once dissolved, the dewaxed blonde shellac can be used during the encaustic process to create a shellac burn that is unique to encaustic art.
Once dissolved in alcohol, shellac can be successfully used after 12 months, but shellac older than six months should be tested.
We use the highest grade shellac that is imported from Germany.
