The Encaustic Medium consists of damar resin and high grade beeswax and yields a hard, shiny and translucent finish.
This is a CLEAR and transparent medium that consists of naturally decolored beeswax.
It is the key component to the encaustic process and is used as a base coat (primer), clear paint or can be mixed with Artists' Grade Color Pigments to create a colored encaustic paint.
The Encaustic Medium is also valuable for many mixed media techniques.
The beeswax is sourced from local beekeepers although the damar resin is imported as it is not readily available in South Africa.
The Encaustic Medium should be melted at 100 degrees celsius and kept melted during the painting process.
